HEALTH & SAFETY
More options than ever for families needing elder care
More Americans than ever before are now older than 65, and in just four more decades, for the first time in history, there will be more seniors in the U.S. than people younger than 18, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Given those numbers, is it any surprise that many families wrestle with decisions for how to take care of aging parents, grandparents and other loved ones?

Just 20 years ago, families might have had to choose between putting a parent in a nursing home or having one younger family member quit a job to stay home and care for the parent. Today, options abound and it's important to know what's available before making such an important decision.

Many families seek advice and expert assistance, such as from Assisted Transition, that can help ensure their loved ones receive the best possible care for his or her needs. The organization offers information, resources and free placement services to families looking for senior care and housing options. Assisted Transition provides referrals to assisted living facilities, nursing homes, residential care homes, senior housing and other industry resources. HELPFUL HINTS
Colorful accents create extraordinary spaces
When looking to transform your home, elements such as doors, ceilings and trim are perfect places to add color. These architectural details can create a wow factor with well-placed splashes of color.

"Doors, ceilings and trim are my favorite places to introduce bold accents. And if you start with a coordinated palette, it's easy to find an accent color you love," says David Bromstad, HGTV star and celebrity interior designer.

Bromstad recommends HGTV HOME(TM) by Sherwin-Williams, a collection of interior and exterior color palettes that simplifies the process of choosing hues for home accents or accessories, so you get it right every time. Bromstad offers the following tips for using color to accent your space.

* Welcome guests with statement doors. A bold orange or red front door will boost curb appeal.
* For an unexpected touch of luxury, consider a colorful ceiling. Rich hues such as black or deep gray can help to create elegant dining rooms or dens.
* Frame your space in neutrals. White trim offers depth and sophistication to your home, inside and out.

Household Tips
This months tips, hints, and tricks are related to "Painting Tips"

Paint Remover For Skin
Apply cooking oil to skin to remove paint.

Clean Paint Tray
Line your paint tray with a large plastic garbage bag before pouring in the paint. Discard when through and there will be no tray to clean.

Storing Paint
Mark the level of the paint on the outside of the can before storing to quickly tell how much paint is left.

Painting Kitchens
Be sure to wash kitchen surfaces thoroughly before painting - paint will not stick to greasy film.

DID YOU KNOW?"Did You Know" facts about History:
Only one of the Seven Wonders of the World still survives: the Great Pyramid of Giza.

The first parachute jump from an airplane was made by Captain Berry at St. Louis, Missouri, in 1912.

The first written account of the Loch Ness Monster, or Nessie, was made in 565AD.

The world’s first skyscraper was the 10-story Home Insurance office, built in Chicago in 1885. (During Roman times buildings were up to 8 stories high.)
