HEALTH & SAFETY
Four numbers you need to know for good health
(BPT) - In addition to getting your cholesterol levels, body mass index and blood pressure checked, there is one medical marker that you should add - Advanced Glycation End-products (AGEs).

AGEs are markers for the aging of our internal organs, tissues and body systems. Research shows that AGEs are linked to nearly every chronic disease we face today such as obesity, kidney, heart and eye disease, and dementia.

AGEs develop naturally in our body and can be ingested through certain foods, including browned, sugary and processed foods. When people consume too many of these foods, higher than normal levels of AGEs build up in the body's tissues, accelerating the aging process internally.

You can lower AGEs in your diet by avoiding charred and blackened foods, extending cooking time and incorporating more water (e.g., steaming, poaching, boiling) and acidic marinades (e.g., lemon or lime-based) into your food preparation, according to the A.G.E. Foundation. Choosing colorful foods that include healthy iridoids, like noni, blueberries, olives and cranberries as well as consuming the supplemental beverage TruAge Max, can effectively lower AGEs. Additionally, receiving a full eight hours of sleep allows the body to fight AGE accumulation and managing physical and emotional stress curbs the production of AGEs.

HELPFUL HINTS
Space-making ideas create room for holiday entertaining
(BPT) - What did you do last year to make room for your holiday party? Move some furniture into the garage, pile coats in the spare bedroom and use the coffee table for dessert service? This may be your year to find a better way to maximize your entertaining space.

Living and family rooms are often main entertaining areas for holiday parties. Because so much of daily life goes on in these rooms, it's not uncommon for clutter to accumulate. In preparation for your party, remove clutter and unneeded furniture. If your sofa and chairs usually sit away from the wall, it's OK to push them back to make more space in the center of the room. Once you have ample open space, use a combination of existing seating and some added chairs to create multiple, smaller seating groups.

Getting electronic components out of the way can also help create space. Holiday party prep is a perfect inspiration to finally get your flatscreen up off that big, clunky TV stand and onto the wall. Sanus' Premium Series wall mounts make it easy to hang a flatscreen on the wall. The full-motion mounts assemble without tools and offer side-to-side sliding so you can perfectly position the TV. The mounts also come with a tool that helps you locate wall studs and check that your TV is level. Visit www.Sanus.com to learn more.

Household Tips
This months tips, hints, and tricks are related to "Kitchen Tips"
 Too Much Salt
If you've added too much salt to a recipe, there are several solutions, 1) add a little sugar. 2) in soups or stews, a raw potato slice added to the mixture will absorb the salt, and 3) a second batch can be made, omitting the salt, and added to the first batch. Combine the two mixtures and freeze half for later.

Wilting Vegetables
Remove brown edges of vegetables and sprinkle with water. Wrap in a towel and pop into the refrigerator for about an hour. Or, dip quickly in hot water, then ice water with a small amount of cider vinegar added.

Rock Hard Brown Sugar
Add a slice of soft bread to the package of brown sugar, close the bag tightly, and in a few hours the sugar will be soft again.
Jelly Jars
Before discarding jam and jelly jars, fill with hot water and shake. Use the water when making gelatin desserts.
